Fully entitled The Brown & Blue Diamond At War. The Story Of The 2/27th Battalion AIF, this battalion history by John Burns is difficult to find with its dustjacket and, since it has never been reprinted, is a highly sought-after item.
Published in 1960, it contains 6 maps plus 65 plates (one being a double-page colour map) plus a folding map mounted on the rear pastedown.
As with most of our military history items, this battalion was drawn up largely from South Australia. Initially operating in Northern Africa, the 2/27th saw most of its action in New Guinea, suffering heavy losses and waging battle against the Japanese in some of the most grim conditions of WWII.
Our copy has ownership stamps from the Plympton RSL, which may add or detract from your interest, and is in excellent condition apart from the extensive tape marks on the front and rear endpapers (as pictured). The tape has been removed and the dustjacket is now covered in acid-free archival plastic.
