We presume this to be the first edition (August, 1955) although the title page, an exact copy of the outer stiff wrapper, states July. A comprehensive report with 48 full page black-and-white photo plates, 12 text-figures and maps.

A publication of the Ceylon National Museums. A detailed review of fossil elephants from South and East Asia (India, China, mainland and island Southeast Asia) by the Museums’ Director, P.E.P. Deraniyagala. as well a review of the morphology, anatomy and behavior of the two living elephant species.

Aside from the 2cm triangular loss to the top corner of the cover (pictured), this is a tight copy in very good condition.
