Pickwick Papers [early Australian educational ed]

Out of stock

This beautiful copy of Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers; Being The Posthumous Papers Of The Pickwick Club has been edited by Carlyle Smythe “…to suit the requirements of the Education Department of Victoria” and was published by Fitchett in 1912.

(Fitchett Brothers Pty Ltd was a small publishing house in Melbourne that specialised in educational texts.)

With b&w illustrations by Alf. Fischer throughout and colour print on the front (card) cover. Also includes pages of “Notes & Explanations” at rear and decorative endpapers with the publishers’ motif.

Faults include a 5cm tear from the base along the front spine edge, weak hinges, residue from a sticker at bottom right of cover and previous owner’s name on front fly. But overall, considering age and the ephemeral nature of the item, it is an excellent copy and scarce in any condition.
