Paving The Way – 1913 Illustrated Edition

Paving The Way, although essentially a novel, is the iconic representation of life as it was in colonial South Australia. Simpson Newland’s tale was first published in 1893 and this deluxe, illustrated edition, published by Gay & Hancock, was produced in 1913.

The large (quarto) format, thick boards and lovely page stock give this production a majestic feel and our copy is in excellent condition – truly one for the collector or, if you will allow us to hint, surely no true member of the Adelaide establishment should be without.

For added effect, it has a beautiful gift inscription “from Mrs & Mr ‘Sim’ Jr” who, although this cannot be guaranteed, is most likely Sir Henry Simpson Newland.
