One of the true classics of 20th Century literature and the archetypal dystopian novel, George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four requires no amateur review!
This is a genuine first edition, published by Secker & Warburg in 1949, and in very acceptable condition.
When first published, copies of Nineteen Eighty-Four were issued with either green or this (rarer) maroon dustjacket – both are considered first issues and are notoriously fragile.
Our copy, as pictured, has small chips and tears with some small loss to both the top and bottom of the dustjacket spine (now protected); limited foxing to the front and rear endpapers; a mark from what appears to have been a bookseller sticker inside the front cover; general dirt marks on rear; sunned spine (as is the norm); slightly canted block; and small mark on the top of the coloured page block.
In summary, it is still a very good copy of one of literature’s most collectible items.
