Fully titled: Manners And Customs Of The Aborigines Of The Encounter Bay Tribe; South Australia, this important document is authored by H.E.A. Meyer.
Meyer (in early obituaries, his initials are listed H[einrich]. A[ugust]. E[dward].) was a lutheran pastor who spent time with the Ngarrindjeri people of South Australia. Together with Teichelmann and Schurmann, Meyer’s research into the languages of Indigenous Australians at a time when there was systemic pressure to eradicate them stands as a vital linkage with tribal culture.
This is the 1962 facsimile copy (South Australian Facsimile Editions No. 20) of the rare original (1846). Like the original, it is a slim volume but is housed in more sound hard brown boards (the original has blue paper covers). Our copy is in excellent condition.
