[Gibbon’s] Decline & Fall Of The Roman Empire

Out of stock

There are few works more renowned, revered or respected than The History Of The Decline & Fall Of The Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon. When it was first published (in six volumes between 1776 and 1789) it lay the foundation for future historians and has not been out of print during that time.

This particular set is a handsome 12-volume edition printed in London in 1823 for Allason et al. Internally, all volumes are in excellent condition with minimal age toning to the pages (it is almost 200 years old, after all!) and the foldout maps are without tears. However, there is damage to the boards with splits at many of the hinges (an example of which is pictured). They all remain intact.

In summary, this is a very solid edition of one of history’s greatest works and certainly a worthwhile addition to your bookshelves.
